In such a funk lately. I'm getting tired of these depressing songs on my playlist, although most are quite beautiful. Like Arthi Meera (aka Mom & Dad) - if you haven't heard of her yet, get on that. She and Ethan Stoller have some beautiful music together. And they wrote what may be the single most dead-on lyrics (for my situation) I've ever heard in "It's Not You." Here's a sample:

You've made a hobby of shutting me out
But I keep running to get in.
I must be stupid for trying so hard.
I can't punch through concrete.

I've made the decision to end my efforts.
You won't see me so much anymore.
And after all this time,
I can't imagine that would mean much to you.
I'm prepared for you not to care, not to care at all.

It took me some time, but I understand now,
I'm just not a challenge cause I actually care.
You seem happy, prospects abound.
I only hope you're as successful as you think you're gonna be.

You've made a fool of me.
I've made a fool of myself.
You've always known there'd never be you and me.

I feel so foolish now
But it's not me and it's not you.
How can it be that you can't see what I see?
It seems so real to me.

Ok, the lyrics probably don't look like much, but with Arthi's voice, it's haunting

oh, you humor me today
calling me out to play
with your telescope eyes, metal teeth
i can't be seen with you, you freak

go cry, go run away
let your short legs carry you away
with your big dress and your dirty hair
your pen's waiting for you
just get far, far away from me
i don't want your disease

please don't make me cry
please don't make me cry
i'm just like you
i know you know
i'm just like you
so leave me alone

dear matthew, why can't you see?
you're just not near enough like me
with your telescope eyes, metal teeth
i can't be seen with you

please don't make me cry.

Did I ever mention that I didn't get that job? Yeah, bummer. Luckily I was offered (and subsequently accepted) a different position. I really did want that first one, though :(

Oh well.

Can long-distance relationships work? I really want to know what you think. Anyone. I don't even care if you post anonymously, I'm just curious how others feel about the issue. I kinda feel like they're all doomed to fail and therefore best avoided. Is anyone actually part of a successful one?

https://community.hsus.org/campaign/FED_2006_fur_labeling?source=gac4l4

The U.S. House of Representatives is considering legislation, H.R. 4904, the Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2006, which would close a loophole that allows garments featuring fur valued at less than $150 to be sold without identifying it as animal fur or specifying the species of animal or country of origin. Without proper labeling, consumers can't always tell if an item contains real fur or faux fur -- and today's processing techniques make it nearly impossible for consumers to tell the difference.

I've become pretty good at discerning real from faux, but a lot of people are not. Furthermore, the fur industry shouldn't be allowed to get away with this shit. So if you're the type to raise a fuss and bitch to your local representative (like me), please do so. This doesn't even require animal rights preaching, just appleal to them as a consumer - $$$ always gets their attention.

Don't assume it's a waste of time - this is an easy bill to get passed, and every little blow against the fur trade is a blow worth making. Thank you.

This Sunday, April 30th is the major rally for Darfur in DC!
This is the culmination of this semester's "Million Voices
Campaign" and people will be flying in from all over the
country to attend. This is your chance to tell the leaders of
our country as well as the international community that we
must end this genocide. STAND and the students of UMD will be
meeting at 11:30 for poster-making on the mall and at 12:30
we will meet at the shuttle stop across from the Union to
commute into DC. Please wear green!

If you are a student group leader and plan to promote this
among your group, or if you have any questions, please
contact Avital at Aparness@umd.edu. Additionally, if you
have extra funding, or if you would like to donate supplies
for poster making, please contact Avital as well.

This is a good cause, and if nothing else, rallies and protests are a great experience. Everyone should go, and perhaps help out with the poster making before-hand. Let's make it a big turnout!

Is it still me that makes you sweat?
Am I who you think about in bed?
Do you think of what you did,
and how I hope to god she was worth it.
When the lights are dim and your heart is racing
as your fingers touch your skin.

I've got more wit, a better kiss,
a hotter touch, a better fuck
than any girl you'll ever meet.
Sweetie, you had me.
Boy, I was it - look past the sweat,
A better love deserving of
exchanging body heat in the passenger seat?
No, no, no, you know it will always just be me.

Will you dance to this beat?

Hey, what smells like blue?

I had a job interview on Friday. I think it went pretty well, but I can never really tell. I should find out if I got it within a few days. Cross your fingers for me!

London was awesome, and I wanna go back! NOW! Eventually I may post pictures here, but for now, just know that I saw a lot of the city (but not enough!) and met some strange, fantastic English people. Someday I'll live there, I swear.

I'm going to London. Oh, bet on it! I'm not usually an impulsive person but I went ahead and bought tickets today. It won't be much time, but I've always wanted to see the city. Our plane departs in 11 days. EEEEEEE!!!!
